BIOGRAPHY

Jana Kubánková(born 1988, in Czechia) is violinist, cross-disciplinary artist and coach.

Since 2017 Jana has appeared as a concertmaster, soloist and performer of the Berg Orchestra where she premiered many international and Czech contemporary works and participates at cross–disciplinary artistic projects with eminent dance groups and visual artists. She also participated at free artistic projects as performer and free improviser.

She started presenting her own authorial work in music and visual art in analog photography in 2020. Her major focus are environmental and geopolitical issues. In 2020, she published her online audio-visual project “Steps of Freedom”, dealing with struggle for democracy in her country, and “Footprints, Wrinkles and Scars”, dealing with human action within environment. Her photographic debut took place in November, 2022, in Rome, Italy, at the exhibition Experimenta, curated by Loosenart.

In 2019, Jana co-founded and run cross-disciplinary international artistic group Colture Company focusing on human rights issues. She has premiered projects Lili Elbe, about changing the sex and Being Medea, dealing with women migration.

Jana founded an educational method called Psychosomatics for Musicians, based on her training in Laban Analysis of Human Motion, expressive therapies and philosophy. Within this method, she leads the students to body-mind approach and creativity in learning and performing process. Jana is leading workshops mostly within Czechia, Slovakia and additionaly at Meadowmount School of Music in USA, since 2018.

Jana is active in community work. She has run a non-profit organization to manage projects for wide public to share artistic experience from creation. She has taken part in social-art projects with minorities and children in danger, such as Gipsy Camps in Slovakia or Centers for Children in Danger in Prague, people with mental disorders and refugee children.

Jana graduated in performance and theory of performance from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 2012. She also gained a full scholarship to study violin at Meadowmount School of Music in NY, USA in 2006, 2007 and 2008. . At the age of twenty, Jana became a violinist in the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.  Jana also took an important part in arranging and coaching many educational projects within the Czech Philharmonic. In 2017, Jana left the orchestra to get artistic freedom and time for her own projects.
