EMBODIED VIOLIN

Embodied Violin is performance experiment of using the musical instrument beyond traditional playing format in both sound and movement

and challenging musician becoming the dancer, while the violin is transforming from musical instrument to a partner body on stage.

Performance is mirroring not only the musician-instrument relationship or the function of musical instrument in our lives, but also relationships to our own bodies or even dialogues with any other body and role changing on the way to reach closeness, respect and understanding. 

This performance is sustainable.

Developed and premiered 2025 in Berlin.

PSYCHOSOMATICS FOR MUSICIANS

Psychosomatics for musicians deals with complex body-mind approach to musicians body, mind and the soul as the unity and all the processes coming out performing and musical studies as complete issues.

This method focuses on balancing of the body mechanics as well as its psychological and expressive aspect. Method brings psychological and physiological aspect in relation in which they already are by their nature but they are usually recognized as separate issues.

Method is build on a basis of music psychology, Laban Analysis of Human Motion and Bartenieff Fundamentals. It works also with projective techniques of expressive therapies, psychohygiene techniques and relaxation.

JUST A PIECE. Hard Labor in Zittwerke Factories.

artistic-educational project in Czech-german coproduction

JUST A PIECE is a project of authorial theater performance on the topic of hard labour in the Zittwerke factories (Semily/Czech Republic and Zittau/Germany) for Junkers engines for German combat aircraft. The purpose of the project is to use artistic form to commemorate and convey the topic of forced labour for the arms industry on both sides of the border during World War II and also to confront this topic with the current situation of right-wing radicalisation.

The project is taking place in collaboration with the professional Gerhart Hauptmann Theater in Zittau, Germany.

BIOGRAPHY

Jana Kubánková(born 1988, in Czechia) is violinist, cross-disciplinary artist and coach. Her works and programs were presented internationally in Czechia, Germany, Slovakia, Italy, USA and Brazil.

Jana graduated in performance and theory of performance from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 2012. She also gained a full scholarship to study violin at Meadowmount School of Music in NY, USA in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Yet during her teenage age, she performed as a soloist with eminent Czech orchestras, such as Prague Philharmonia and Prague Chamber Orchestra. She also gave life concerts for the Czech Radio Broadcasting. At the age of twenty, Jana became a violinist in the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.  Jana also took an important part in arranging and coaching many educational projects within the Czech Philharmonic. In 2017, Jana left the orchestra to get artistic freedom and time for her own projects.

Since 2017 Jana has appeared as a concertmaster, soloist and performer of the Berg Orchestra where she premiered many international and Czech contemporary works and participates at cross–disciplinary artistic projects with eminent dance groups and visual artists. She also participates at free artistic projects as performer and free improviser.

Since 2022, she regularly cooperates as a musician with the Gerhart-Hauptmann Theater, Görlitz-Zittau, Germany.

Since 2023, she creates sound design for international performances.

In 2025, Jana created authorial sound-movement performance Embodied Violin, premiered in Berlin, Germany.

Jana also presented herself as visual artist. Her works in analog photography were exhibited in 2020 and 2021 on international exhibitions Experimenta and Mimesis, in Rome, Italy, curated by Loosenart. 

Jana founded an educational method called Psychosomatics for Musicians, based on her training in Laban Analysis of Human Motion, expressive therapies and philosophy. Within this method, she leads the students to body-mind approach and creativity in learning and performing process. Jana is leading workshops mostly within Czechia, Slovakia and additionaly at Meadowmount School of Music in USA, since 2018.

Jana is active in community work. She has run a non-profit organization to manage projects for wide public to share artistic experience from creation. She has taken part in social-art projects with minorities and children in danger, such as Gipsy Camps in Slovakia or Centers for Children in Danger in Prague, people with mental disorders and refugee children.
